Why I’m Still Blogging in 2022

The blogging world (and my personal life) have changed a lot in the last 10 years, which is when I first started this silly little blog (I say “silly” because even though blogging has evolved so much since then, I’m not sure it has yet received the respect it deserves unless you’re a huge company). The way we consume information (and our attention spans and general interests) has also changed in ways I never would’ve predicted. But one thing that hasn’t changed is my love of genuine words and photos, as a writer AND a reader.

I recently had to make a switch to a new blogging platform and up until now I had been able to transfer all of my old posts. This time around though, I wasn’t able to (or maybe I just lack the patience I used to have when it came to figuring out all things tech-related) so 10 years worth of sporadic blog posts suddenly retired and vanished into the blogosphere when I signed up for this new platform. I’m at peace with it though. Fresh starts never hurt anyone. And maybe this time around, I can find and stick with my true niche (somewhere along the lines of vintage inspired fashion and cozy, conscious lifestyle? Okay, gonna need to narrow that down a bit more- watch this space).

Not sure about you, but I personally still read blogs, especially written by bloggers I have been following for years and years. I’ve noticed the blogs that are popular these days are ones with many contributing writers on a variety of topics, but I will always personally prefer blogs that are written by one person: a “real” person that you come to know through their style of writing and photography and who you can count on to be authentic, not just trendy.

Lately, some of my favorite bloggers have switched to writing weekly or monthly newsletters, which I think is also a wonderful way of keeping in touch with an audience and sharing thoughts. There’s just so many new and innovative ways to grow as a community and no matter how we choose to, the important thing is that we do. The years online have shown us that positive communities online are beneficial and for creative souls, especially, inspiring. Long live whatever platform you choose to connect on!
